Boucle effectuée via Doublehead ski trail, Old Path, New Path et descente via Doublehead ski trail.
Le départ via Doublehead ski trail se fait sur un large sentier composé de roches de petites et moyennes grosseur sur environ 1 km (0.6 mile) jusqu'à l'intersection avec le Old Path sur la droite. À cette jonction, vous commencerez votre montée raide sur l'Old Path. Le sentier est très peu rocailleux. Un beau petit défi sportif !
Arrivez à la jonction, vous prendrez à gauche sur New Path pour aller rejoindre South Doublehead. Vous verrez un sentier latéral bien fréquenté sur votre droite qui vous mènera à des corniches ouvertes qui offrent un beau panorama plus au sud vers la région des lacs et plus au nord pour voir toute la chaîne présidentielle ainsi que les Wildcats et les Carters (avec la très bien définie Carter Notch). Revenez sur vos pas et poursuivez au-delà du sommet pour aller voir la vue via le "Spur" où se trouve un grand cairn. La vue y sera moins dégagée à cause des arbres, mais vous pouvez voir Kearsarge North et les Ossipees au sud, plusieurs sommets de 52 WAV (Shelburne Moriah, Success, the Baldfaces, et Eastman) au nord, et North Doublehead juste en face de vous. Après avoir admiré d'autres vues, revenez sur vos pas jusqu'à la jonction entre le New Path et l'Old Path, entre les sommets North et South Doublehead pour aller rejoindre le sommet Nord.
De la jonction, une courte descente pour ensuite effectuer une montée rapide, mais raide. Faites attention à un petit cairn sur le côté gauche du sentier pendant la montée ! Ce cairn marque un herd path qui descend jusqu'à une belle corniche ouverte offrant d'excellentes vues (bien meilleures que celles du sommet que vous aurez sur North Doublehead) ! De ce point de vue, vous pouvez voir le village de Jackson et certains des plus petits sommets de la région au sud-ouest, des parties de la chaîne Sandwich, plusieurs sommets de 4000 ft très éloignés (comme les Tripyramides, Tecumseh, Osceola, Carrigain, des parties de Franconia Ridge, South Twin, et des parties de la chaîne Willey) et plusieurs sommets de 52 WAV (Stairs, Resolution, Iron, et Black Mountain) à l'ouest, et l'extrémité sud de la chaîne Presidential au nord-ouest.
En plus de la cabine de bois au sommet boisé de Doublehead North, vous pourrez voir les profondeurs du Maine, ainsi que des aperçus de la chaîne présidentielle à l'ouest à l'arrière de la cabine ( au bout d'un petit sentier situé sur le côté des toilettes).
La descente via Doublehead ski trail se fait sur un large sentier composé de roches de petites et moyennes grosseur jusqu'à l'intersection avec le Old Path sur la droite pendant 1.6 km (1.2 miles). Cette portion sera sinueuse et un peu abrupte, mais rien d'exigeant ou de trop technique. D'une forêt plus dense, vous passerez à un environnement plus dégagé au fil de la descente. Arrivez à la jonction, il ne vous restera qu'à parcourir la portion connu du départ sur environ 1 km (0.6 mile) jusqu'au stationnement.
Une randonnée idéale pour les jeunes familles et votre partenaire canin. Lors de ma visite, c'était nuageux. Je me suis promis de refaire cette randonnée un jour pour admirer les vues. Merci à mes amis pour la description lors de leur visite respectives.

Loop via Doublehead ski trail, Old Path, New Path and downhill via Doublehead ski trail.
The start via Doublehead ski trail is on a wide trail of small and medium-sized rocks for about 1 km (0.6 mile) to the junction with the Old Path on the right. At this junction, you'll begin your steep climb up the Old Path. The path is not very rocky. A great little sporting challenge!
At the junction, turn left onto New Path to reach South Doublehead. You'll see a well-trodden side trail on your right that leads to open ledges offering great panoramic views. further south towards the lake district and further north to see the entire Presidential Range as well as the Wildcats and Carters (with the well-defined Carter Notch). Retrace your steps and continue beyond the summit to see the view via the "Spur" where there is a large cairn. The view will be less clear here because of the trees, but you can see Kearsarge North and the Ossipees to the south, several 52 WAV peaks (Shelburne Moriah, Success, the Baldfaces, and Eastman) to the north, and North Doublehead just in front of you. After admiring more views, retrace your steps to the junction between the New Path and the Old Path, between the North and South Doublehead summits, to reach the North Summit.
From the junction, a short descent is followed by a rapid but steep ascent. Look out for a small cairn on the left side of the path as you climb. This cairn marks a herd path that descends to a beautiful open ledge offering excellent views (much better than the summit views you'll get of North Doublehead). From this vantage point, you can see the village of Jackson and some of the region's smaller peaks to the southwest, parts of the Sandwich Range, several distant 4000 ft peaks (such as Tripyramids, Tecumseh, Osceola, Carrigain, parts of Franconia Ridge, South Twin, and parts of the Willey Range) and several 52WAV peaks (Stairs, Resolution, Iron, and Black Mountain) to the west, and the southern end of the Presidential Range to the northwest.
In addition to the log cabin at the forested summit of Doublehead North, you'll be able to see the depths of Maine, as well as glimpses of the Presidential Range to the west at the back of the cabin (at the end of a small trail on the side of the restroom).
The descent via the Doublehead ski trail is on a wide path of small and medium-sized rocks until it intersects with the Old Path on the right for 1.6 km (1.2 miles). This section is winding and a little steep, but nothing too demanding or technical. From a denser forest, you'll move into a more open environment as you descend. When you reach the junction, just follow the well-known section from the start for about 1 km (0.6 mile) to the parking area.
An ideal hike for young families and your canine partner. It was cloudy when I visited. I promised myself I'd do this hike again some day to admire the views. Thanks to my friends for the description on their respective visits.
