Boucle de 5,5 km. Ajout de Chapel Rock ; boucle de 6,4 km.
Par une belle journée ensoleillée automnale d'octobre, cette montagne est l'endroit idéal pour apprécier les couleurs avec sa vue imprenable sur le Nord des Présidentielle. Elle offre une vue vers le mont Madison, la chaîne des Wildats et des monts Carter.
Le départ de cette randonnée est relativement plat sur le premier 1,4 km. Un large chemin de terre battue bordé par les arbres. Vous arriverez à une intersection.
Prendre à droite pour un gain rapide sur moins d'un km allant de 820 pieds (250m) à environ 1650 pieds (502m) jusqu'au sommet, à 2405 pieds (732 m). Vous aurez aussi un point de vue sur cap rocheux incroyable à mi-chemin de la montée pour reprendre votre souffle et plus loin avant d'entrer de nouveau sur le sentier forestier pour rejoindre le sommet boisé et poursuivre en descente.
Prendre à gauche si vous êtes accompagnés de jeunes enfants pour une montée plus progressive sur environ 2 km jusqu'au sommet en poursuivant sur ce chemin de terre battue qui entrera à droite sur un sentier forestier (panneau d'indication). Le sommet est boisé avec les vestiges d'une ancienne tour à feu. Continuez pour atteindre le points de vue.
Peu importe l'option choisi pour effectuer la boucle, vous croiserez un intersection à 4 voies : Pine Mountain Trail jusqu'au sommet; Pine Mountain Trail Loop Trail retour à la route, contournant le Horton Center; et le chemin privé vers le Horton Center. Nous nous sommes dirigés vers le Pine Mountain Trail, le chemin le plus à gauche.
Je vous suggère fortement de faire le détour pour vous rendre à Chapel Rock. Ce sentier d'environ 800m aller-retour est aménagé de passerelles de bois, d'escaliers et de panneaux d'indication. La vue d'une croix de bois vous indiquera votre arrivée sur ce haut point. N'hésitez pas à gravir la grosse roche pour avoir un vue splendide sur Pine Mountain et autres montagnes des environs.
Entre le sommet et l'intersection pour Chapel Rock, vous croiserez également deux points de vue : un vers la ville de Gorham et un vers Chapel Rock.

5.5 km loop. Added Chapel Rock; 6.4 km loop.
On a beautiful sunny autumn day in October, this mountain is the ideal place to appreciate the colors with its breathtaking view of the North of the Presidential. It offers a view towards Mount Madison, the Wildats Range and the Carter Mountains.
The start of this hike is relatively flat for the first 1.4 km. A wide dirt road bordered by trees. You will come to an intersection.
Bear right for a quick gain of less than a mile going 820ft (250m) to around 1650ft (502m) to the summit at 2405ft (732m). You will also have an incredible rocky cape viewpoint halfway up the climb to catch your breath and further before entering the forest path again to reach the wooded summit and continue downhill.
Turn left if you are accompanied by young children for a more gradual climb of about 2 km to the summit, continuing on this dirt road which will enter a forest path on the right (signpost). The summit is wooded with the remains of an old fire tower. Continue to reach the viewpoint.
Regardless of the option chosen for the loop, you will cross a 4-way intersection: Pine Mountain Trail to the summit; Pine Mountain Trail Loop Trail back to road, bypassing Horton Center; and the private path to the Horton Center. We headed up the Pine Mountain Trail, the far left path.
I highly suggest you take the detour to get to Chapel Rock. This path of approximately 800m round trip is fitted out with wooden footbridges, stairs and signposts. The sight of a wooden cross will indicate your arrival at this high point. Do not hesitate to climb the big rock to have a splendid view of Pine Mountain and other surrounding mountains.
Between the summit and the intersection for Chapel Rock, you will also come across two viewpoints: one towards the town of Gorham and one towards Chapel Rock.
