Accès : Environ 40 km plus loin, après être entré dans le parc "Crawford Notch". Le début du sentier est à gauche du AMC Highland Center, de l'autre côté de la voie ferrée, en arrière du bâtiment qui ressemble à une gare et que l'on appelle Crawford Depot Information Center. Il est possible de ce stationner devant ce bâtiment.
J'ai effectué cette ascension lors de la boucle des mont Tom, Field et Willey. Une randonnée sous haut couvert forestier. Les seuls points de vue seront une fois rendu au sommet.
Au départ, suivez les indications pour "Avalon Trail" situé de l'autre côté de la voie ferrée. Après 160 m, vous poursuivrez tout droit lorsque vous croiserez l'embranchement vers le Mont Willard sur votre gauche. Vous croiserez ensuite à 500 m, également au km 1.3, le ruisseau Crawford Brook. En hiver, vous aurez l'avantage de n'avoir aucune difficulté à le traverser !
Au km 2 (1.3 miles) vous arriverez à l'intersection pour aller rejoindre le mont Avalon via "Avalon Trail" sur votre gauche. Environ 1 km plus loin vous verrez un petit embranchement sur votre gauche, agrémenté d'une pancarte, menant au sommet de celui-ci. Un 90 m d'ascension assez raide. Quelle récompense sera ce point de vue donnant sur le mont Field ! Sublime ! Poursuivez sur quelques mètres pour atteindre un cap rocheux qui permet d'admirer un très beau panorama vers l'impressionnante paroi rocheuse du mont Webster. Comblés, vous reviendrez sur le sentier principal pour revenir sur vos pas en continuant toujours sur Avalon Trail pour aller rejoindre le stationnement.

Access: About 40 km further, after entering the "Crawford Notch" park. The trailhead is to the left of the AMC Highland Center across the tracks from behind the station-like building called the Crawford Depot Information Center. It is possible to park in front of this building.
I did this ascent on the Mt Tom, Field et Willey loop. A hike under high forest cover. The only points of view will be once at the top.
At the start, follow the signs for "Avalon Trail" located on the other side of the train tracks. After 160 m, you will continue straight when you will cross the junction towards Mont Willard on your left. You will then cross at 500 m, also at km 1.3, the Crawford Brook. In winter, you will have the advantage of having no difficulty crossing it!
At km 2 (1.3 miles) you will arrive at the intersection to join Mount Avalon via "Avalon Trail" on your left. About 1 km further you will see a small fork on your left, decorated with a sign, leading to the top of it. A fairly steep 90m ascent. What a reward this vantage point overlooking Mount Field will be! Gorgeous ! Continue for a few meters to reach a rocky cape which allows you to admire a very beautiful panorama towards the impressive rock wall of Mount Webster. Satisfied, you will return to the main trail to retrace your steps, still continuing on Avalon Trail to reach the parking lot.
