Randonnée en boucle de 15,4 km ou linéaire de 12,5 km. Les plus ambitieux pourront poursuivre 2.5 km plus loin pour aller rejoindre Yard Mtn, un sommet boisé sans intérêt. le sentier pour s'y rendre est plutôt facile, bordé par de nombreuses fougères
Depuis le début du sentier vous devrez suivre les balises bleues dans la forêt et les traces jaunes sur les roches.
Dès le départ, le sentier commence par une montée raide vers First Brother, où la forêt dense cédera la place à une crête rocheuse ouverte après environ 1,4 km. Quelle vue ! Une courte descente suivie d'une autre montée mène au Second Brother, avec des vues incroyables au sud et à l'est, donnant sur la Great Range, Marcy, Giant et Hurricane Mtn par exemple. En temps dégagé, il est même possible d'apercevoir les monts Mansfield et Killington du Vermont. Une descente et une montée plus longues et plus progressives mènent à Third Brother, où vous trouverez une vue sur la slide rocheuse proéminente qui donne son nom à Big Slide. Il y a aussi une bonne vue sur le col à parcourir qui vous sépare du sommet.
La montée vers les Brothers au travers les roches et racines ne présentera aucune difficulté technique importante. Arrivés à Third Brother, vous aurez parcouru la majorité du dénivelé.
En direction de Big Slide, à mi-chemin, vous pourriez rencontrer une portion plus boueuse. De là, une lente montée à travers une forêt ouverte mène à une intersection avec un autre sentier qui mène au John's Brook Lodge. C'est à cette intersection, sur le chemin du retour, que vous pourriez descendre pour former une boucle.
Après l'intersection, à 400 m du sommet, le sentier atteint son point le plus raide. Des échelles en bois ont été placées pour aider les randonneurs. Ici, les chiens pourraient avoir beaucoup de difficulté.
La vue du sommet de Big Slide est moins impressionnante que celle sur les Brothers. Ce sommet est une petite zone rocheuse offrant une vue sur la Great Range. Aucune pancarte ni borne géologique.
Le retour se fait par le même sentier. À l'intersection, vous aurez le choix de faire une boucle. Je vous suggère cette option. La descente, bien que plus longue, est beaucoup plus douce pour les genoux jusqu'au John's Brook Lodge. Par la suite, les 5,5 km restant seront sur un chemin de terre battue orné de quelques roches e racines sans difficulté technique, jusqu'au stationnement.

15.4 km loop or 12.5 km linear hike. The more ambitious can continue 2.5 km further to reach Yard Mtn, a wooded summit without interest. the path to get there is rather easy, bordered by many ferns
From the start of the trail you will have to follow the blue markers in the forest and the yellow marks on the rocks.
Right off the bat, the trail begins with a steep climb to First Brother, where dense forest will give way to an open rocky ridge after about 1.4 miles. What a view ! A short descent followed by another climb leads to Second Brother, with incredible views to the south and east, overlooking the Great Range, Marcy, Giant and Hurricane Mtn for example. In clear weather, it is even possible to see the Mansfield and Killington mountains of Vermont. A longer, more gradual descent and ascent leads to Third Brother, where you'll find a view of the prominent rock slide that gives Big Slide its name. There is also a good view of the pass to hike that separates you from the top.
The climb to the Brothers through rocks and roots will not present any significant technical difficulty. Arrived at Third Brother, you will have covered the majority of the elevation.
Heading towards Big Slide, halfway through, you might encounter a muddier portion. From here a slow climb through open forest leads to a junction with another trail that leads to John's Brook Lodge. It is at this intersection, on the way back, that you could descend to form a loop.
After the intersection, 400m from the summit, the trail reaches its steepest point. Wooden ladders have been placed to help hikers. Here the dogs could have a lot of difficulty.
The view from the top of Big Slide is less impressive than the view on the Brothers. This summit is a small rocky area with views of the Great Range. No signs or geological markers.
The return is by the same path. At the intersection, you will have the choice to make a loop. I suggest this option. The descent, although longer, is much gentler on the knees to John's Brook Lodge. Thereafter, the remaining 5.5 km will be on a dirt road adorned with a few rocks and roots without technical difficulty, up to the parking lot.
